How to Maintain Your HVAC System

While HVAC maintenance is not a DIY undertaking, there are a few things you can do to monitor the health of your system.

• Thermostat fan should always be set in the “Auto” position.
• Standard filters regardless of density should be changed at least 12 times annually.
• Turn off unit before changing filter.
• Correctly sized and regularly changed filters not only ensure proper operation of your system but will keep your evaporator coil free of excess buildup.
• Keep in mind a well ventilated area for your Air Handler is best practice. Free of bio-aerosols, paint cans, cat litter, debris or bulky items that will restrict air flow to your unit.
• Monitor that your drain line is flowing freely. Call us if it is not.
• For thermostats that are capable of controlling relative humidity, the recommended set point for our climate in Northeast Florida is 50-60%.

You can also check your outdoor coils to make sure they are free of debris, foliage, and dirt. If you notice that your system is running less efficiently than normal or making strange noises when operating, then it may be time to call in the experts.
